Manic Monday

Hey Everyone!
What an awesome day we are having! We have learned about the 'ing' at the end of a word, and about the blends /th/, /ch/, /sh/, and /wh/. We learned that the 'ing' makes a verb in the 'present tense.' For example, jump-ing means we are doing it right now! We also learned that when writing words, we need to listen for the beginning sound, middle sound, and ending sound. While we were practicing writing, we saw that some words have a blend at the beginning. A blend is when two letters make one sound.  In math today, we finished our artifact on a 'dime.' We saw that a dime has a heads and tails side. We talked about what was on the 'heads' side and the 'tails' side. Talk with your child and find out what he or she remembers! We learned that the president on the heads side is Franklin Roosevelt and that the tinly little D is where the 'mint' is located that 'minted' (or made) the dime. We also learned that there are 4 mints in the United States.  In a few days, we will be practicing spending money. Please make sure to let your child practice his/her new found knowledge with money at home. If you are at the ballfield, a nickel or 5 pennies can buy a piece of bubble gum! Let him/her be a big kid and go to the concession stand to purchase their gum!

Tomorrow is a BIG day for us! We will be hosting some visitors in our school. Our school was chosen to be visited for accreditation in our county. I am excited for the opportunity for some outsiders to see what a great school we have and how smart our children are!

Please note: Our field trip is listed for the 22nd of March. It may have to be moved to the 30th. Don't take off work just yet...let me get a concrete date for you!

We're off to a great week! I hope you have as much fun hearing about what your child is learning as we are having at school learning these new concepts!
