Woo Hoo it is Friday!
We had so much fun the last couple of days in math! We are learning about the one's, ten's and hundred's places! Today we learned about a 'range' of numbers. We got to play a game of War using dice and objects to count. I set a timer for one minute. One patent rolled the dice while the other counted objects. I stopped them at a minute. They had to make an "estimate" or a "good guess" about how many we're in the pile. They wrote their estimate on a piece of paper. Then they used "efficient" counting strategies to count the actual number of objects. That means they had to count by two's, five's, or ten's to get the number of objects. The took their estimate and figured out who was closest to the actual number. They learned that some of their estimates fell "in the range," while others fell "out of the range." Whoever had the closest estimate to the real number won the round! Super Fun! I hope you get a chance to play War at home this weekend!
